Su obra se caracteriza por la profundidad en la exploraci\u00f3n de temas como la familia, la memoria y la identidad. Hatoum es conocido principalmente por su trilog\u00eda compuesta por \u00abRelato de um Certo Oriente\u00bb (1989), \u00abDois Irm\u00e3os\u00bb (2000) y \u00abCinzas do Norte\u00bb (2005), obras que reflejan la complejidad de las relaciones familiares y sociales en el contexto amaz\u00f3nico. El primer volumen, \u00abA Noite da Espera\u00bb (S\u00e3o Paulo: Cia. das Letras, 2017), se sumerge en los a\u00f1os de plomo de Brasil, siguiendo la vida de un joven estudiante que se muda a Bras\u00edlia en medio del torbellino pol\u00edtico de la \u00e9poca. El segundo volumen, \u00abPontos de Fuga\u00bb (S\u00e3o Paulo: Cia. das Letras, 2019), contin\u00faa explorando las vidas de los personajes introducidos en el primer libro, expandiendo sus historias personales contra el tel\u00f3n de fondo de un pa\u00eds en transformaci\u00f3n.
